More than 60 people visited Jawoyn Contracting offices to help celebrate the official launch of the new business in Katherine.
The launch involved a welcome by Jawoyn Contracting board member Alister Andrews and a presentation by the company’s director John Berto.
“Jawoyn members want to work on their country,” Mr Andrews said during the launch.
“This launch is something Jawoyn members have wanted for a long time – to build our country ourselves.”
Mr Berto explained the company has a strong ‘buy local’ approach.
“We are focused on local jobs and building our local economy,” Mr Berto explained.
“It is part of our vision to keep jobs and services in the Katherine region.
“While Darwin’s economy has taken a downturn, we are part of a growing boom in the Katherine region.
“We already work with a lot of providers and we have lots of connections with local tradies, a network we are keen to grow.”
Jawoyn Contracting is CAL accredited and has been working on a number of projects in the lead up to its official launch.
“The works we’ve completed at Nitmiluk National Park, with Northern Territory Housing and on our land trusts has proven we provide reliable and quality service,” Mr Berto explained.
